Driving Assessment Procedure

There are 4 parts to the driving test and the test will last 60 minutes.

  1. Driving licence and eyesight test

  2. Highway code questions

  3. Vehicle check to make sure your vehicle is roadworthy

  4. General driving ability and a reversing manoeuuvre

​

If you pass your taxi assessment you will receive the following:

  • A pass certificate

  • Debrief from examiner

​

 

Rules about the car

​

  • Be taxed

  • Be covered fully by a valid motor insurance policy (certificate of insurance)

  • Be roadworthy and have a current MOT - if it is over 3 years old

  • Have no warning lights showing for e.g. airbag, engine management light

  • Have no tyre damage and the minimum legal tread depth on each tyre - you cannot have a space saver spare tyre fitted.

  • Be smoke free - this means you cannnot smoke in the vehicle just before or during the test

  • Be able to reach at least 62mph and have a mph speedometer

  • Have 4 wheels and a maximum authorised mass (MAM) of no more than 3,500kg
